Place of birth:
Jacksonville, North Carolina

Family information:
Married to Rachel (of Costa Mesa) since 2002. We have three kids--Aubrey (born March 2006), Micah (born December 2008), and Hannah (born August 2010).  We also have a retired racing greyhound named Jack.

How did you come to NHC?
I was hired in September 2001 during my senior year at Vanguard University as a part time Youth Pastor.

What is your role at NHC?
In January 2009 I changed over from being the Youth Pastor to an Associate Pastor.  Among other things, I help facilitate Men's Ministry, Life Groups for adults, as well as what we offer to young marrieds and young families, college, etc.

What is the best part about your role?
I love having been at North Hills long enough to know the "stories" of so many of the people.  It's the people that make it.

Who is your favorite character in the biblical story?  Why? How do you identify with him/her?
I think the correct answer is supposed to be Jesus, but it's so hard to identify with him. I like Peter. Maybe because I can all too well identify with his brashness and inability to "get it." The fact that God chose him and worked with him gives me hope.

Who are your favorite sports teams?
I find it hard to let go of my childhood allegiance to the Chicago Bulls (Jordan) and the San Francisco 49ers (Montana and Rice).  But I have since been able to embrace the Lakers, Angels, and USC Football.

Who is your favorite musical artist or group?
U2

What were you like in junior high?  Why?
I moved around a lot as a kid and was always searching for new friends.  I have distinct memories of finding my "posse" in two locations during Junior High: the band room (I played trombone), or the tether-ball court. Yep...I was a nerd.

If you could only have one book to read (other than the Bible), what would it be?  Why?
Ragamuffin Gospel, by Brennan Manning. It helped me better understand the concept of God's grace.

If you could choose your last meal on earth, what would it be?  Why?  Breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes, eggs over medium, bacon & sausage, biscuits 'n gravy, tall glass of orange juice and a coffee with more creamer than sweetener. Because I just simply love breakfast. Plus, it's my kind of comfort food, and if this is my last meal on earth, then I need some comfort food.

What makes you laugh?
Tickling my kids.

What makes you cry?
The sappy/sensitive parts in movies where even the music pulls on my emotional heart strings.
